Menteri Imigrasi dan Pemasyarakatan (Imipas), Agus Andrianto, revealed the latest updates on President Prabowo Subianto’s plan to build a prison for corruptors on a remote island. Three potential locations have been identified, as discussed during a special remission for Nyepi and Idul Fitri at Cibinong Penitentiary, Bogor. The candidates are West Java, East Java, and Kalimantan.

Modern Super-Maximum Security Prison: President Prabowo aspires to establish a modern, super-maximum security correctional facility on a remote island. The specific location is yet to be finalized, with one site secured in West Java and requests made for East Java and Kalimantan, in coordination with the Ministry of Forestry.
-
Awaiting President’s Directive: Agus Andrianto is awaiting the president’s guidance on the chosen location, emphasizing the need for maximum security in the new prison.
-
Enhanced Management: While supporting the initiative, it was stressed that existing prisons, particularly those holding corruption convicts, must adhere to regulations and undergo improved management under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections.
This initiative, first mentioned by President Prabowo during a teacher allowance program launch, aims to prevent corruptors from escaping and causing further societal harm. It has sparked discussions on the effectiveness of such punitive measures in deterring corruption, with calls for legislative actions focusing on asset recovery and substantial fines to combat economic crimes effectively.
